After months and months of dedicating our lives to improving the Malaysian economy (hahah! macam ye je!), we thought it was time to share our gains with some other neighboring economies. By that, we were thinking of either Laos, Cambodia or Thailand.

I'm not exactly sure why we picked Thailand out of the lot considering the fact that: -
1) We've never been to the other 2 countries
2) We spent most of our childhood years in Bangkok

If anything, Thailand shouldn't even be in the list but oh well... hotels had been booked and tickets had been bought and the trip was still 3 months away. (Is it wrong that I like to plan things early? I'm just that excited. That's all!)

So it was Bangkok first and then Chiang Mai. I'm sure it sounds all exotic and glamorous but you should have seen our itinerary. 2 nights on the train from KL to Bangkok with an 8 hour layover in between countries. 2 days in Bangkok and then another night on the train to Chiang Mai. A week in Chiang Mai...then 3 nights on the train back to KL ..with 2 layovers - 1 in Bangkok and another in Butterworth. Oh and might I add that we'd be carrying huge backpacks throughout the entire journey. Not so exotic now, is it?

We were quite worried at first about having to spend a total of 6 nights sleeping on a train bunk but I'd have to say that I was absolutely amazed at how wonderful and great everything was. The bunks were very clean and cozy, the toilets - though rather unusual looking, was always being cleaned by the staff, the food served was excellent and what made it even more enjoyable was the feeling of being on a little United Nations seminar for backpackers. There were people from literally everywhere looking to go to so many odd places and everyone was so friendly.

This entry shows photos from Bangkok and our train journey

After Delhi and Agra, we managed to visit Goa, Manipal, Udupi and Bangalore.

I didn't take pictures in Goa cos I was too busy shopping and enjoying the beach. My camera battery ran out in Manipal and Udupi was just a short day trip.

Bangalore, on the other hand was nice. It was a lot more developed than the other cities we visited. It reminded me of Bangkok from back in the 90's.

India - Agra (Taj Mahal)

Vehicles weren't allowed near the Taj Mahal. Had to get off here
.. to switch to a battery operated bus to take us nearer.
From here onward, it was by foot. Notice the Taj and the end..

We visited Agra a few days after we arrived in Delhi. Went on a tour bus which took about 4 hours from Delhi. It wasn't really that far but because of the road conditions and the odd cow crossing the roads from time to time, it felt like eternity.

On any normal highway, the journey might have taken us half the time.

The city looked a lot poorer than Delhi; a big contrast to the Taj Mahal area. Foreigners were charged 750rupees while the locals only had to pay 20rupees. It's quite common for foreigners to pay more for certain things but the difference is definitely the biggest I've seen.

My old fotopages site was starting to get crowded so I thought I'd start a new one. It's been 7 months since my India trip and I still hadn't done anything with the pics. So I thought I'd force myself to put it up. Talk about procrastination

Anyway, I've quite a lot of pics so I'll start with Delhi.
